The transition to sustainable energy means drastically changing our energy system. We’re going to be working with new energy carriers, such as heat and hydrogen, and we need numerous innovations for storage and management.
Our future energy system will consist of millions of energy consumers and suppliers. We’ll require a smart way to align demand and supply. New solutions will arise to make energy supply and conversion possible.
As The Green Village has already invested in the basic infrastructure, this offers a lot of opportunities for plug-and-play innovations to be tested. We offer a DC-grid and hydrogen grid, and in the near future we’ll also have a heat grid. Besides of course the regular infrastructure with natural gas and AC.
24/7 Energy Lab
As we’re decentralising the generation and storage of sustainable energy, and the diversity and variability of energy systems becomes greater, we find ourselves with a challenge to make all these systems work in a smart and safe manner.
With the 24/7 Energy Lab, the TU Delft is developing a local and CO2-free energy system for the built environment, by finding ways to efficiently direct and/or convert energy flows to other energy carriers, such as hydrogen and heat.
Direct Current
Thanks to some progressive projects, The Green Village offers a valuable DC infrastructure, making research surrounding the distribution of DC and usage of DC in buildings possible.
Since the new partnership with Stichting Gelijkspanning Nederland, there is also access to knowledge concerning the current technical state.
Charging square
At the Charging Square, entrepreneurs and researchers work together on new innovative products to aid the increasing demand for charging solutions.
The Charging Square offers the opportunity to test, develop and demonstrate new concepts and products. We currently have projects such as autonomous and DC charging. We’d like to add demand-driven charging to this list.
Hydrogen Street
Three Dutch grid operators have laid down a gas network at The Green Village, which they’ll use for practical research into the role of hydrogen in the urban environment.
Third parties are able to use the “Hydrogen Street” for research, such as heating houses with hydrogen. This will generate a system of production, transportation and usage of hydrogen. Our environmental permit allows us to easily start new projects and innovations.
